Le Souk Ceramique

Doug Littrell

Reaching for the top comes naturally to Doug Littrell. His favorite destination? "Mountain climbing in the Andes. Or Himalayas." Doug’s love of exotic locations began as a child when his diplomat father moved him and his family through such countries as Cameroon, Burundi, and Zaire. It was on these trips that Doug learned to see things from many cultural perspectives, became conversant in four different languages, considered a life in diplomacy, and finally blended his people skills with creating a market for the gorgeous, handcrafted ceramics of culturally diverse Tunisia. Le Souk Ceramique was founded with the goal of "growing the studio in Tunisia and hiring more people…then turn the studio into an employee-owned cooperative of sorts." While Doug has discovered that ceramics is a "competitive industry, so it has not always been easy," he keeps climbing, having seen the potential with an unexpected, early gift after his young, struggling company delivered their first big order. "They sold out in a week with what they thought would last 3 months. I knew then our little studio would someday make it big." With his beloved best-friend—his dog—by his side and the hopes of someday finding "that special woman," Doug Littrell continues to infuse Le Souk Ceramique full of beauty and possibility to enhance not only your table, but the lives of those who create the extraordinary pieces. Doug takes life as it comes, knowing only one thing for sure…"A wise man once said we know nothing is for sure and I am not wise enough to question that."
