The Ivory/Gold Table Runner was created by craftspeople in rural India with the support of Community Friendly Movement (CFM), a fair trade organization based out of New Delhi, India. CFM's mission is to create wealth for its primary stakeholders—the artisan communities that are actually making the product—by connecting them with retailers and wholesalers who are looking to source quality handmade products from developing countries. As a member of Fair Trade Federation, USA and Co-op America, CFM subscribes to globally agreed-upon fair trade standards. Through the help of CFM, extremely poor and marginalized women are taught sewing and embroidery skills that they can use to create sellable products. Empowering women economically creates opportunities for them to be more involved in decision making at the family and community level.
