Each piece is handmade to order in Brooklyn, New York, using the same distinct technique Alexis developed 18 years ago when he followed his passion for Art Deco Bakelite and turn-of-the-century Lalique to design jewelry to sell on the fashionable, eclectic streets of Soho, New York. His bold designs quickly caught the eye of serious store buyers from world-renowned museums, luxury department stores, and high-end specialty stores from around the globe, sending demand for Bittar's work skyrocketing. His work can now be found in more than 600 department stores and independent boutiques worldwide, adorning stars on the red carpet, supermodels on fashion runways, and featured in magazines like Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Inspired to fuse the glowing, colorful look of Lalique glass with the functionality of Bakelite, Bittar taught himself to carve and then paint Lucite to create his exceptional and unique jewelry. Though he now has a production studio and a staff of 160, Alexis still carves and paints the prototype designs himself—never using molds—before entrusting other sets of hands to carve, polish, paint, glaze, and decorate his artistic pieces for the customer.
